Sometimes I’m just in the mood for a good thriller. When I saw that this one takes place in our own Miami, well, I decided to crack it open and take a look.
THE GIRL IN THE BLASS BOX by James Grippando is so timely. Young woman from El Salvador fleas her country with her teenage daughter. After being abused by her husband, Julia makes her way to Miami where her sister is living legally. But after a series of unfortunate events force her under the scrutiny of ICE officials, Julia is once again on the run.
I listened to a podcast from Books and Books in Miami, an interview between Mitchel Kaplan and James Grippando. I learned how many years Grippando has been living in Miami and writing the Jack Swyteck character. Jack’s the lawyer in these legal thrillers. I learned how many books he’s written. Had no idea. Very swift moving story.
I learned quite a bit about El Salvador. And the relationship between Jack and his grandmother. I loved the story. That is, until the end. I was disappointed at the ending. I’m hoping it leads to another book with Julia…
Having said the above, I do look forward to the next Grippando. He’s a good writer. I got my thriller fix for the next several months.
My finished copy of THE GIRL IN THE GLASS BOX came from Harper Collins publishing in exchange for an honest review. Thanks guys..
