A new novel by Elin Hilderbrand is always exciting. After all, she’s writing about Nantucket. Nothing is more summery than Nantucket Island. And no one does Nantucket like Hilderbrand.

Who is Deacon Thorpe? He’s a bad -boy celebrity chef who’s made it to the top of the food chain through reality TV shows and his famous restaurants that spare nothing.  A big part of who Deacon is comes from his childhood. His father spent one fabulous day with him  when Deacon was 13.  That day was spent on Nantucket Island. The next day Deacon’s dad flew the coop. Up and left his family never to be seen or heard from again. Poof, gone.

Now we have three lovely ladies. Lauren is Deacon’s first wife; childhood sweetheart. Belinda is a famous actress who gets her claws into Deacon at a vulnerable time and becomes his second wife. Then there is Miss Scarlet, who used to be the nanny while Deacon was married to Belinda.

One fine day on Nantucket, Deacon drops dead of a massive heart attack. He’s too young to die, but with his lifestyle, it’s no wonder. And his last wish is for his wives, ex and present, to get together at the Nantucket cottage to give him a send off. Trouble is, of course, that they abhor each other. But everyone congregates along with Deacon’s best friend Buck who’s in charge of the estate.

American Paradise is the name Deacon has given the run-down cottage that he and Lauren purchased many years ago with the first big check he received. It was run-down then, and is even more so now. The big news is that Deacon is flat broke. He is leaving mortgages unpaid and debt up the wazoo.  Leaving it all behind for his loved ones to clean up. As usual.

HERE’S TO US is the perfect beach read.  It will transform you as always to the beach and to all the beachy stuff you want.  You get outdoor showers; seafood chowder along with a fabulous recipe; trips into the ocean; sandy feet, and lots of laughs, drama, and deceit.
