The Dressmaker

THE DRESSMAKER, by Rosalie Ham, is being made into a movie starring Kate Winslet. You’ll be able to see it on the big screen in October.

THE DRESSMAKER, is a novel of love, revenge, and haute couture. It takes place in a small town in Australia. Myrtle (Tilly) Dunnage returns to Dungatar after leaving in shame as a young person, many years ago.  She’s managed to make something of herself after living and working in the haute couture houses in Paris. She’s really only come back to check on mom who’s ailing. When she decides to stay and make a go of it making exquisite dresses  the righteous women’s old resentments come back to haunt her.

I love a good story centered on revenge. And I also enjoy reading about Australia and dressmaking. All this adds up to a read to remember.

I have one copy of THE DRESSMAKER, by Rosalie Ham, for giveaway. Please leave a comment below. No P.O. addresses, please. And, only U.S. addresses. I shall choose one winner on Tuesday, August 18. Good luck! Sending a big thanks out to Penguin Books for supplying the giveaway copy.

  1. I’ve enjoyed reading about Australia since I read The Thornhirds eons ago. I’ve recently read The Light Between the Oceans and The Husband’s Secret. Both were big, juicy stories that my book club enjoyed. I would love to have this book to share with my club that is going on 25 years.

  2. This novel sounds captivating and unforgettable. I love the setting, the era and the plot which sounds enthralling. Thanks for this great feature and giveaway.

  3. Memories of a trip to Australia ten years ago and the plot of The Dressmaker are reasons I would love to read this book. Thanks for the review and the chance to win it!

  4. This sounds like a very enjoyable book but Im wondering why the common title? I have counted 5 other books with the same title..it can get a little confusing at the bookstore. I do look forward to reading this dressmaker not the one on the Titanic or the ww2 spy…….Thanks

  5. Sounds like an intriguing plot . Would love to read this before it comes out as a movie. Off the subject I Ordered Circling the Sun an earlier review. Had get it because the main characters name is Beryl. My mom just pasted away a few years ago and her name was Beryl. We may see this name resurrected..
