Congratulations go out to Amanda Coplin for her amazing novel, THE ORCHARDIST. You’ve won first place for fiction in the B&N Discover Program, in the fiction division, 2012.
I have been a champion of this novel since I read a galley of it last summer. I kept stopping to reread entire sentences; not because I could not understand them, but because the prose was unbelievably sumptuous and lush. Then there is the story; ah the story. What a tale. I will be reposting my review of this amazing book tomorrow.
I want to take this time to thank Harper Collins one more time for supplying me with several copies of this award -winning novel. I was able to give copies away at lectures and help spread the good word: that Amanda Coplin is one of the most talented new writers we have today.
I just can’t wait to see what Amanda is working on right now. It is bound to be fabulous. But this one is going to be hard to beat. Cudos to you Amanda Coplin!
It was announced yesterday that Abraham Verghese has sold the rights to his upcoming novel. This is HUGE news. Lovers of CUTTING FOR STONE, you can rejoice. Abraham’s novel is called THE MARAMON CONVENTION. It’s set in Kerala, India; 1940’s. It follows the life of a precocious girl who escapes her town in southern India to become a pioneering physician in spinal surgery.
I love the setting. Since Abraham’s parents are from this part of India, you just know he has done his research. He will have the setting spot- on. I am tickled pink about this news. Now, Abraham is writing this book now. We don’t have a date for it, and won’t for some time. He is going to take his time and come forth with a magnificent novel.
So, boy am I lucky. Two of my favorite authors are coming out with books. I have already shared the news about AND THE MOUNTAINS ECHOED by Khaled Hosseini. His new novel comes out in May.
This is the best spring for exciting titles! I must race off to read. I am way behind.
Heart Of Palm
I just finished this amazing novel of Florida yesterday. I am still reeling from the love of it. I can’t wait for you all to read it. Comes out in April.
One of my favorite writers: Douglas Kennedy, is back April 30, with a new novel that takes place in Maine. Kennedy is always edgy and this one is no exception.
The Golem and the Jinni
THE GOLEM AND THE JINNI by Helene Wecker is a combination of historical fiction and magical fable. I am looking forward to reading this one. I am hoping it is like THE NIGHT CIRCUS. Will keep you posted. Arrives on the publishing scene in May.
And The Mountains Echoed
I got a special treat this week. UPS arrived with a galley of AND THE MOUNTAINS ECHOED by Khaled Hosseini. I am truly blessed to receive this one. He is one of my favorite authors of all time. His KITE RUNNER and A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS are some of the best novels ever written. I am assuming this new one, much anticipated, will also be HUGE this year. Pub date is May, 21.
As you can see, I am amply supplied with great titles. And this is only the tip of the iceberg. For those of you who do not know, I am home from working at the store for a couple of months. I have been babying my right ankle, hoping to stave off a worse-case scenario. My podiatrist says I am suffering from a disease called The Itis’s. Tendonitis, arthritis, and bursitis. Why my ankles are afflicted, I don’t know. Couldn’t possibly have anything to do with running around a huge store like a crazy person. I want to be able to do this for years to come, so, for now, I am resting. And reading. And writing.
